The Ijen Plateau is one of the oldest coffee-growing regions in Indonesia, originally developed during the Dutch colonial era. The area’s high elevation, rich volcanic soil, and consistent rainfall provide an ideal microclimate for cultivating high-quality Arabica beans. Shade-grown coffee is common, with many smallholder farms practicing traditional and sustainable cultivation methods.
